Peace in a Troubled World

In the early 2000s, Krista Tippett interviewed the great Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh at a retreat attended by police officers and other members of the criminal justice system. In her interview, she discusses with him the complexity of conflict in contemporary life and the value of the concept of mindfulness. Thich Nhat Hanh explains that with mindfulness "you are fully alive and fully present and can get in touch with the wonders of life that can heal you. You are more solid and more able to handle suffering inside of you and around you...When you breathe in, your mind comes back to your body and you become fully aware that you are alive and that you are a miracle."
